Januar 2007.
In diesem Sinne,

What is it about the project Europe?

In her inaugural speech as President in-office of the Council in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on January 17th 2007, Angela Merkel quotes this sentence which is taken from the book “From Plato to Pop. Shared Values and Things we have in Common”.
What exactly is this project Europe? What values do we Europeans have in common?
In his article Frank Baasner, co-author of the book and director of the Franco-German Institute, proposes an answer. Our ‘cosmos of values’ forms a ‘tension-filled coordinate system’ which received more and more points throughout the history. The basic European values are also interpreted differently in different states.
What we have in common are our contradictions – and that is what makes Europe unique.
In this sense,
have fun when reading this article (in German!)
and of course when exchanging “opinion and counter-opinion, idea and counter-idea, thesis and antithesis” in the online discussion forum!
The article is an extract from the book of Peter Prange, Frank Baasner, Johannes Thiele “From Plato to Pop. Shared Values and Things we have in Common” that has been published in 2006 by the Droemer Verlag.
