Hollande’s Socialists triumph by winning an absolute majority


The second and final round of voting in French parliamentary elections took place on Sunday June 17th. The Socialists achieved an enormous victory: the party, together with left-leaning allies, won 314 seats in the lower-house National Assembly. Only 289 seats would have been necessary to obtain an outright majority.

Moreover, all 25 members of the new government formed by the Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, were elected in their respective wards.

The conservative UMP party, who has dominated the assembly for a decade, together with centre-right allies won only 226 seats. Now they have to face the election defeat by being set in opposition for five long years. Many MPs of the former government (Claude Guérant, Nadine Morano and Michèle Alliot-Marie) had to concede defeat.

The far-right National Front party haven’t had a seat in parliament since 1997; nevertheless they won two in this election. The 22-year-old Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, the niece of the party’s leader Marine Le Pen, thus became the youngest MP to serve in parliament. Furthermore, the Green party will finally be able to form a parliamentary group thanks to the 17 seats they won in the final round.

All in all, the election results show a new record: from now on a large number of 155 women will sit in parliament.

The election was again marked by a low turnout at the polls. Only 56,29% of the electorate participated in the final round.

Absolute Mehrheit für Hollandes Sozialisten


Am Sonntag, den 17. Juni fand in Frankreich der zweite Wahlgang der Parlamentswahlen statt. Die Parti socialiste geht als eindeutiger Sieger der Stichwahl hervor: Ihre engsten Verbündeten mitgerechnet, kommen die Sozialisten auf 314 der 577 Mandate in der Nationalversammlung. Die absolute Mehrheit liegt bei 289 Sitzen.

Zudem sind alle 25 Mitglieder der neuen Regierung des Premierministers Jean-Marc Ayrault in ihren jeweiligen Wahlbezirken gewählt worden.

Die bisher dominierende, konservative UMP dagegen kommt gemeinsam mit ihren direkten Verbündeten nur auf 226 Sitze. Sie erlitt schwere Verluste und muss jetzt in die Opposition. Viele frühere Minister und Ministerinnen (Claude Guéant, Nadine Morano und Michèle Alliot-Marie) der ehemaligen Regierung mussten sich geschlagen geben.

Mit zwei Abgeordneten wird der rechtsextreme Front National (FN), erstmals seit 1997 wieder in der Nationalversammlung vertreten sein. Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, die 22-jährige Nichte der FN-Parteichefin Marine Le Pen, wird auf diese Weise Frankreichs jüngste Parlamentarierin. Weiterhin hat die Partei Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) mit 17 gewählten Abgeordneten die erhoffte Fraktionsstärke erreicht.

Beim Blick auf die Ergebnisse dieses zweiten Wahlgangs fallen vor allem, die vielen Frauen auf, die in die Nationalversammlung einziehen werden. 155 weibliche Abgeordnete sind eine neue Rekordhöhe.

Die Wahlbeteiligung war erneut sehr gering; nur 56,29% der Stimmberechtigten gaben am Sonntag ihre Stimme ab.

Le Parti Socialiste obtient la majorité absolue à l’Assemblée Nationale


Le second tour des élections législatives s’est déroulé dimanche 17 Juin en France.

Le Parti Socialiste se présente comme le grand vainqueur de l’élection puisqu’il obtient seul la majorité absolue, à savoir 300 sièges sur 577. Si l’on ajoute les succès obtenus par ses proches alliés politiques de gauche, le nombre de sièges obtenus s’élève à 314.

Les 25 membres du nouveau gouvernement de Jean-Marc Ayrault ayant présenté leur candidature ont tous été élus dans leurs circonscriptions respectives.

L’UMP recueille 194 sièges, sur un total de 226 sièges pour la droite parlementaire.

Plusieurs anciens ministres de l’ancien gouvernement ont été battus, notamment Claude Guéant, Nadine Morano et Michèle Alliot-Marie.

Pour la première fois depuis 1997, le Front National se dote de deux élus à l’Assemblée Nationale, dont Marion Maréchal-Le Pen qui devient, à 22ans, la plus jeune députée de la Vème République.

Le parti d’Europe Ecologie-les Verts (EELV) dispose désormais d’un groupe parlementaire dans l’Hémicycle, avec 17 députés élus.

Deux constats peuvent être évoqués à l’issue de ce second tour : le nombre de femmes à l’Assemblée atteint un nouveau record, avec 155 élues.

De plus, l’abstention s’avère de nouveau très élevée, puisque seuls 56,29% des votants se sont déplacés aux urnes dimanche.
